What is HICAPS?

HICAPS stands for Health Industry Claims and Payment Service.

It is an electronic health claims system that allows private health fund members to claim automatically at their health service provider. The system instantaneously processes the health fund’s contribution at the time of payment.

HICAPS functions similarly to an EFTPOS machine, however instead of communicating with financial institutions it communicates with health funds.
